Frequently asked questions
Yes it does. We offer an active play style outdoors, using all the positive aspects of gaming to get everyone off the couch.
Nowadays, children (to be honest, not only children) spend too much time in front of a screen using their mobile phones, watching series, playing video games, and keeping up with social media.
A traditional swing or slide is fun, but we believe we can make it more fun and trigger this new generation to go outside and play. Our interactive playsets are meeting the demands of this new reality. They combine the entertainment value of video games with the benefits of outdoor play and therefore are more tempting for the new generation. Research has shown that interactive playsets all greatly exceed their traditional counterparts in terms of exercise intensity. During the study, the movement intensity of the Yalp Sona and Yalp Toro was compared with other sports. The Yalp Sona’ Reaction Race’ game achieved more than 10 MET points, which makes it more intensive than biking (MET 4.5), basketball (MET6), running (MET6.2), or non-competitive football (MET 7).
MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent and is a unit of measure within physiology. One MET is equal to a person’s metabolic rate while sitting/ resting.
Yes. The interactive playsets will become more interesting every year with new updates and games.
The games give children the freedom to use their imagination and create their own rules. Each game consists of several levels, with the next level being more complicated than the last.
Therefore the games are always challenging and ensure that they are never dull and are dynamically tailored to meet the players’ skills. If you play a game and become better, the playset will increase the difficulty level, and vice versa. A set of games and sound samples are pre-installed on the interactive playsets, plus new games and sound samples are developed continuously.
We offer a TEN-year warranty period from the installation date for non-electronic parts like steel, aluminum, and plastic construction parts. When purchasing a Yalp Interactive playset, our customers also receive a 2-year warranty on the electronic parts*. Upgrade to the carefree pack for a 5-year warranty on the electronic parts* and more.
Our warranty does not cover vandalism or faulty use. We have limited our warranty for harsh climates and proximity to the sea. Please ask us for the detailed warranty specifications.

Inclusive play
All interactive playsets are genuinely inclusive and are developed to be accessible for people with disabilities.
People with disabilities can play the same games with their friends, brothers, and sisters. We achieved this by making the play floor safely accessible to any kind of wheelchair.
We have seen children who would usually remain non-reactive in everyday situations and completely light up when playing on the interactive playset. We have seen a child with substantial autism completely relaxed, moving her arms, dancing, and smiling underneath the Yalp Sona Interactive dance and play arch.
The Sona has also become a significant healthcare innovation for seniors. Exercising with musically guided programs contributes to the well-being of vulnerable elderly, Especially those that spend most of their days indoors. Furthermore, Sona has proven to help people with Alzheimer’s to become more mentally alert.
Yalp R&D has done research by talking to experts and end-users. They’ve even developed and launched a first pilot with improved games and collected two months of play data and expert reviews with these new inclusive games.

Our interactive playsets are developed to fit a specific age group best. Nevertheless, they are fun for young and old. The mistake our designers made at first was to put on the age sticker of 4-80 years old. Only later discovering that a child of 1 year old was having fun on the Sona, an 85-year-old lady was saying “she felt young” again. We let go of the age stickers and are happy to announce all ages can play.
For example, the Yalp Fono Interactive DJ-booth is specially created for teenagers. However, younger children also have a lot of fun scratching the music samples on the Fono. At the same time, we saw at a resort the Fono was also heavily used by parents who had just as much fun discovering what it’s like being a DJ. All Yalp Interactive playsets are developed to be simple to understand by all ages and accessible for everyone, even the elderly or people with disabilities.
For instance, the Yalp Sutu Interactive ball wall is suitable for primary and secondary school children but also irresistible for adults. With one press of the button, children can choose from several games. The impact-sensitive panels measure and react to ball impact. Vivid LED lights and audio speakers give players feedback and encouragement on their performance. This creates a fantastic interaction between the player and the interactive playset; young or old; you can see a smile appear from the very first second they start playing.

Yes!
The Memo, Sona, and Toro are most suitable for big groups.
We have seen the Sona played by more than 30 children simultaneously, where the optimal group size would be 9.
Most Memo games are designed for around six players at the same time.
The optimal group size for Toro would be eight players (4 teams of 2).
For Fono, you would have two DJs, but at the same time, some more people hanging around and leading up to a group size of about 8.
The Sutu would be playable with 2-4 players simultaneously, but it is so intense we often see bigger groups taking turns.
With all interactives, we often see bigger groups taking turns, switching from active playing to hanging around and watching others. That is play, which also stresses the importance of designing the whole play/sports area as one, not only putting one product down. Benches, chill places, walking paths, and other play/sports objects. Ask us for advice on how to create a good play space.
Next to that: our interactives offer many games, where some games are specifically designed for larger groups. These can be activated in My Yalp. We do still have just as many games for single players who want to play alone. There is something for everyone. Visit My Yalp and check out all our cool games!
Interactive equipment
The interactive play fits everywhere and tailors to a much larger target audience than elsewhere. The Yalp Interactive playsets are customizable to your specific theme or facility.
For instance, The Yalp Sona Interactive dance and play arch is available in many different colors or can be fully customized, from flooring to extra decoration elements on top of the arch. Even the games can be adjusted with new sound samples to custom-made games that suit the theme. Curious how the interactive playset you are interested in can be customized? Please feel free to contact us and ask about the possibilities.
Interactive play fits everywhere and tailors to a much larger target audience than elsewhere. It attracts the younger generation and is also very accessible for special user groups.
Interactive play is fun to do only once (daytime leisure) but is also fun for returning visitors. In our designs, we like to test on the ‘one-more-time-effect,’ where replay-ability is key. With our playsets, new games will be available every year. When kids go back to the same playset after a while, they often find entirely new games. The Yalp Interactive playsets can also be theme-dedicated according to the particular facility. Moreover, interactive playsets are accessible to people with a disability or the elderly without stigmatization.

The interactive playsets require little power.
When played, the power used by the interactive playset uses is around 20 – 50 Watt, comparable to an incandescent light bulb. Memo around 50W, Sutu/Toor/Fono around 20W, and Sona around 5 Watt. With the light set on, Sona is also around 20W.
When the interactive playset is in standby mode, the power usage remains at about 10W. In sleep mode (at night, for example, you can not play), the power is limited to around 3 Watt. The only power source needed is a regular power socket; the playsets need to be connected to a power supply of 230 or 110 V AC or on 12V DC like our Yalp Solar post.
Are you looking for green energy, an off-grid, self-sufficient solution for your interactive? Check out our Yalp Solar for green energy use.
Not if is set to the right volume mode from the start. The maximum volume and on/off times of the interactive playsets can be installed by the administrator, with My Yalp.
Also, the positioning of the speakers in every interactive playset ensures that the players hear the sound optimally, whereas the neighborhood experiences as little disturbance as possible.
For example, to prevent sound from carrying far, the Yalp Fono DJ-booth is designed with sides of concrete and speakers directed inwards, to keep music mainly focused at the DJ playing the Fono, and the near audience.
The minimum sound level of the Fono in use is around 60dB (same as a normal conversation). The maximum sound level of the Sona in use is approximately 95 dB (same as a high volume stereo). As a rule of thumb, we advise not to place an interactive playset within 50 meters of the nearest residence. And the play set is not audible at the nearest house. Most of the times, the sound volume of the children that are playing (shouting, having fun) is higher then the sound of the interactive playset itself.
All interactive playsets are specifically designed for heavy-duty outdoor use. The interactives are all-weather proof and developed to withstand the severe conditions outdoors and are thoroughly tested. All electronic components are housed in solid steel or concrete construction.
In 2020 we had 850+ installed interactives show that a computer in the public space is not a problem at all and that the products developed by Yalp are certainly vandalism resistant. We have designed every detail to withstand every weather and usage condition.
The products are made of high-quality materials. For instance, the transparent screens on the Yalp Sutu Interactive ball wall and Yalp Toro Interactive sports arena are protected by a thick polycarbonate casing (the same material used in ballistic shields deployed by the police). All metal parts are made from stainless steel or galvanized and powder-coated steel, which provides ultimate protection against vandalism.
The Yalp Sutu Interactive ball wall panels are successfully tested to withstand substantial impact (1000 times 50kg) and can face vibration and temperature differences of -35°C until +85°C.
All products have passed the vandalism tests successfully. We are convinced of the quality of our products and that shows in our warranty.
Many people playing the Memo, Toro, Sona, Sutu, and Fono at our Yalp office ask our designers: which one do you like best? But how to choose between your ‘children’? The answer is we love them all, each with their own character. But secretly, every Yalper might have his/her own favorite. Just ask us personally, check out our team page!
In some countries, we do have leasing options. Please contact us to find out more.
There currently are no leasing options available in the United States.
Yes, the Interactive playsets are specifically designed for heavy-duty outdoor use and are all-weather proof and developed to withstand the severe conditions outdoors. As a customer told us: “I am surprised how little maintenance is needed. We had to replace the bolts of our swing sets last year, but our Sona did not need maintenance even though it is older”.
Even though the products are low in maintenance, we recommend that you regularly (at least once a year) do some maintenance to keep them in shape longer, regarding the following:
- Clean all polycarbonate panels (front and back) by using a cotton or a sturdy paper cloth and a cleaning substance without diluent. You can use a glass cleaner from the local supermarket.
- Clean the steel structure with cotton or strong paper cloth and a cleaning substance without diluent.
- All screws and bolts need to be checked. Are they still fixed? If not, tighten them.
- Check all wires for cuttings and corrosion. If you see potential damage that can cause any kind of dangerous situation, please contact the supplier.
Our default turf is a 24mm fiber (infill). We also have a 15mm (non-infill), which is of higher quality, more densely stitched, and available in more colors. Custom designs with smaller pictures will look better on a non-infill floor.
For outdoor installations, it is always better to do a sand infill.
Infill is more robust and very suitable for outside. Sand will help with preventing static electricity and keeps it in better condition.
Non-infill is more suitable for indoor, where you do not want to have sand (it’d be all over the floor).
Non-infill is more expensive due to it being finer and denser. It is also available in more colors.
Infill is cheaper, but you will need to get sand and put it on the floor (25kg per m2).

Interactive play is the link between the digital and the real world. The gaming world brings challenges, variety, and innovation to games. Our interactive products bring a solution to today’s obstacles, we live in a fast-changing world with increased digitalization. It is hard to beat the entertainment value of video games.
With our interactive products, we meet the demands of this new reality and the new generation, while ensuring the benefits of outdoor play. It’s where the physical and digital world meet. A swing or slide simply isn’t enough for today’s generation.
No, that is not necessary. And that is not our aim. The solutions is in the way it is designed and used. It is not our goal to create an overload of digital entertainment.
Our goal is to create ‘a new way to play’: looking forward how we can create interesting, healthy, inclusive play sets. Technology is a tool we use, because it offers so much more possibilities in creating unique play experiences that appeal to a wide audience.
It is true Children (and grown-ups) are already spending too much time watching a screen. Instead of saying they can not do that, our designers asked the question: why is this happening? Gaming consoles, social media, online content: they offer so much fun and possibilities. We took this aspect and brought it outside. Combining it with the good aspects of outdoor play: a social environment for healthy activities and discoveries in the real world. If we add electronics, it should also add play value. We could have incorporated a screen into the Sona, but did not do it. If you watch people playing the Sona you can see they are watching at each other, bending the rules of the game and just have fun in an active way together. That’s our goal.
We invite you to visit one of our play projects and see how everyone is playing, and just play. Just like the children do.

Software
The interactive playsets are connected to the internet and are, therefore, remotely controllable.
By purchasing a Yalp Interactive product, you receive a personal login account for My Yalp, where you can access all the settings or your product. My Yalp is very important and is tailored to control all our interactive playsets to your wishes. Our goal was to keep it simple. For example, with My Yalp, you can change the volume and on/off times or choose new games from a laptop or mobile phone. And most exciting, you can monitor the usage statistics and check the latest high scores from games being played.
Within the usage statistics, you can see how many hours there have been played over a certain period and which game is played most frequently and is thus most popular. My Yalp gives you full control over your product. And the best part is that new updates like games and features will be available every year.

Yes, we use a standard-sized solar panel. Although we can not guarantee the connection points will stay the same for future solar panel generations.
It might be that future models need adjusted mounting plates. Ask us about the possibilities.
Yalp Sona
The name Sona is a combination of different inspirations:
- It is inspired by the word Sonar. This is a technique that uses sound to check the location. Sona is using technology and sound and reacts to movement.
- Sona is also derived from several words in international languages like Spanish, Esperanto, Catalan, Italian, English, Latin… All having to do with sound. Sound, Sono, So, Suono, Sana, etc.
- We wanted to have a short name, that did not exist yet. And back in the days, we had a rule all names should end on a (Panna, Sona).
Sona is it!
More information on the Sona can be found here.
